Meet Joel
Joel is a dad, a tenant, labor organizer, and democratic socialist candidate fighting for all residents of Jersey City's West Side. He ran in 2021 and came very close, and is running in 2025 to win. Joel's history of organizing and advocating for people of all economic, ethnic, and racial backgrounds has prepared him to represent Ward B. Now more than ever we need leadership ready to meet the cost of living crisis, unite and defend our neighbors across immigration status, and build a Jersey City for all with good schools, infrastructure, and transit.
People-powered
No corporate developer money. Joel is running a campaign built by working class Jersey City residents
In the press…
“…the status quo has failed…Jersey City needs council members who are not a rubber stamp for corporate and real estate funders and police unions.”
— Joel Brooks as quoted by Hudson County View
“…He proposed expanding affordable housing and rent control protections across the city, and called for ‘visionary long term solutions on school funding.’”
— Joel Brooks as referenced and quoted by NJ.com
“I think the number one component…is listening to what residents want and what residents need. And that means when a politically connected developer wants to put something up, when residents say ‘That doesn’t make sense for our community’, we should listen to them— the residents.”
—Joel Brooks, in Jersey City Times
“We have grinding generational poverty in some parts of Jersey City, and the solution is not a ten-story market-rate apartment building. The solution is providing what working-class people need to survive and thrive.”
—Joel Brooks, in Jacobin
